At 11:15 A.M. on October 5, the Greek saltwater vessel NAVISHIPPER and the steamer ARTHUR B. HOMER met head-on in the Detroit River just off of Grosse Ile. The upbound NAVISHIPPER, operating without a Great Lakes' pilot, apparently failed to ” make the correct turn when entering the Fighting Island Channel and met the HOMER, downbound with ore, bow-to-bow in clear weather. Although damage was extensive to both vessels, there were no injuries to the crewmen of either ship.
