The Detroit Marine Historian Journal of Marine Historical Society of Detroit Volume 26, No. 4 13951 Faust, Detroit, Michigan 48223 December, 1972 It Looks Fretty — Cold / aN big storm dumped a foot of snow on the Cleveland area on Dec. (e 16-17 and a cold wind whipped in off the water to coat bushes BN CASS and weeds with a heavy layer of ice. Al Sweigert grabbed his camera and headed for the waterfront, arriving just in time to catch the FRONTENAC steaming by through the ice. Sweigert reports that the storm froze the Penn Central railroad bridge in closed position for a day and a half, tying up 10 boats. One was trying to get out and the other nine were waiting to come in. These are the joys of winter nav- igation! Sweigert said that because of the late season operations quite a number of the freighters sported Christmas trees this year.
