Photo from the Author’s Collection SEARCH LIGHT (US 106249) Wooden passenger steamer 94’8” x 19S” x6’S”, 95 gross tons. Built as the ADRIENNE in 1884 at South Haven, Mich. by L. A. Leighton for St. T. Leighton, of South Haven. Sold and re-registered to Maria Chrysler, of Harbor Springs. Registry changed to W.E. Chrysler in 1899. It is thought she was damaged by fire about this time and after rebuild her name changed to SEARCH LIGHT. She was used as a Harbor Springs-Petoskey ferry with stops at Bay View, Roaring Brook and Wequeton- sing. She was sold by the Chryslers to Mike Martinck, of Chicago, in 1910. Ownership changed to Walter Hamilton in 1912 and then to H.J. Abrahamson, of Duluth, in 1914. Abandoned at Duluth in 1915. Photo shows her making dock at Harbor Springs c.1900. Ralph K. Roberts ooooo A strike April 9 by 136 members of the Canadian Laurentian Pilotage Authority idled some 50 vessels between Montreal and Anticosti Is- land. The strike ended on 4pril 22 when the pilots agreed to volun- tary arbitration. They sought to boost their annual salaries from about $29,000 to something closer to the annual income of their counterparts on Canada's West Coast which run between $38,000 and $41,000.
