> ‘Pierson “Holdings Grows Robert Pierson Holdings, Ltd., a new Canadian Shipping Company, has entered the Great Lakes trade this year. They recently placed their second ship in service following the March acquisition of the JUDITH M. PIERSON. Their fleet is operated under a subsidiary called the Soo River Company. Their latest addition has been named PIERSON DAUGHTERS in honor of Sarah, Martha and Alexandra, the three daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pierson. These three girls are descendants of a man who was well known in the shipping world. Their great-grandfather was the late Capt. R. Scott Misener, founder of Scott Misener Steamships, Ltd. PIERSON DAUGHTERS was built in 1923 as the CHARLES M. SCHWAB of the Interlake SS Co. She was rebuilt and repowered in 1960 utilizing the stern of the former T-2 type tanker GULFPORT. She was also leng- thened with the addition of a new 72-foot hull section. PIERSON DAUGHTERS currently measures 680 feet in overall length, 60 feet at the beam and 32 feet in depth. Her U.S. tonnages were registered at 9,428 gross and 7,034 net. This vessel had operated earlier this year and then laid up at Ashtabula. After her sale she was brought to Port Colborne arriving on Aug. 19. Herb Fraser and Associates refurbished the ship and add- ed a fourth cargo hold for the grain trade. Christening ceremonies took place on Sept. 14 and the vessel sailed for Duluth. She loaded grain there for a St.Lawrence port and is shown downbound in the Welland Canal on Sept. 24.
