LOG The tanker IMPERIAL LONDON was towed down the St.Clair River on Aug.7 by the tugs PRINCESS I and DOVER on the way to the scrap yard at Rayme's Bend at Port Colborne. The str. BROOKDALE(2) ran aground at the entrance to the Snye Carte, just above Algonac, Mich. on Monday Aug. 30th. She was released on Tues., Aug.3lst, but ran aground while attempting to enter the Snye again later Tuesday. She was finally released by the tugs AMERICA and BARBARA ANN Wednesday morning. She was carrying stone bound for a gravel dock on Walpole Island. The "tall ship" ERAWAN from Panama has been held up at Menominee, Mich. due to financial troubles. At first she had re- fused to pay the cost of a towing job when she went aground near Green Bay, and then for lack of payment to her Great Lakes Pilot who refused to move until the past bills were paid. The new JOSEPH L.BLOCK has made her maiden voyage and is operating well for Inland Steel. The carferry SPARTAN has been in the Bay Shipbuilding yard at Stur- geon Bay undergoing repairs to her hull after grounding at Ludington. She will be re- paired and returned to service as soon as possible. Carferry service was to be extend- ed until the end of September by the Chessie System. A new vessel for the American Steamship Co., a sister to the SAM LAUD, will be built at Sturgeon Bay. She will be delivered in July, 1978. The self-unloading rig of the RALPH MISENER suffered damage during a squall off Indiana Harbor on July 12th. The vessel was temporarily repaired at Port Colborne. Speculation is rampant about the future of the rig. The str.GEO.G. GOBLE carried the new housing for the 1,000 footer being built at Lorain. The tugs ARGUE MARTIN and PRINCESS I towed the barge C.S.BAND, a.)MARTHA down the St.Clair River on Sept. 19th, presumably to scrap.
