Formerly the British freighter TEMPLE BAR, she was pur- chased by Nipigon Transports, Ltd. (Carryore) on September 6, 1976 and taken to Singapore for reconstruction for the Lakes. During her deep sea days TEMPLE BAR measured 527'8" x 75'2" but she has been lengthened to 730' for freshwater service. TEMPLE BAR was built in 1971 by the Upper Clyde S.B., Ltd. of Govan, Scotland. LAKE NIPIGON headed for the Lakes via the Suez Canal. Barry Ander- sen's photo catches her inbound at Port Weller. LAKE NIPIGON spent some time at the old Law Dock at Humberstone while workers removed the special hull strengthening required for her ocean voyage.
