INTRODUCING, INTRODUCING Continwting with the new ships on the Lakes from the last issue, we introduce the following vessels: AURORA...the newest of the Alaska State Ferries was built at Sturgeon Bay this year and delivered to the owners in June of this season. She has a capacity of 250 passengers and 47 vehicles and will see service on the West Coast. All the dimensions and the official number-are not available to us at this printing. Photo on P.6 JAMIE BAXTER... Another of the Peterson Builders' products like the AURORA, this tug has been completed and delivered to her new owners to be jéined to a barge facility being built on the Gulf Coast similar to the PRESQUE ISLE barge-tug combination now sailing on the Lakes. The tug part of this combo was built this year at Sturgeon Bay and sailed for her destination, the Gulf, early this summer. She will be joined to a large barge to be built and will serve the Gulf coast industries as a bulk carrier. Photo on P.6 ALASTAIR GUTHRIE... Named after a prominent Duluth vessel broker, the old BEN MOREELL of the Kinsman Marine Transit Company, was renamed officially at ceremonies at Duluth on July 14th. She has sailed the lakes as the MOREELL for many years and came out as the JAMES MACNAUGHTON for the Wilson Transit Company in 1922, Photo below TEXACO BRAVE...The newest of the Canadian tankers on the Lakes is the TEXACO BRAVE which was built in Japan this year. She joins her sister ships, the TEXACO CHIEF and TEXACO WARRIOR. Each vessel was named for a former Lake tanker in the same fleet a few years ago. Photo on P. EXACO WARRIOR ... This tank vessel was built in 1970 at Wallsend-on-Tyne, England and came to the Lakes last year. This is the first time we have been able to photograph her so we include this addition to the Fexaco Fleet in this issue.
