THE LOG (Continued subisdiary of Detroit and Mackinac Railroad, her former owner. *** Huron Cement's steamer LOUIS G. HARRIMAN has been converted to oil-fired boiler operation this win- ter at Superior, which would indicate her return to active service this year. *** Not slated for service this coming season are Boco's JOSEPH S. YOUNG, Misener's ROYALTON and Q&0's SHELTER BAY. The latter may become part of the grain storage fleet at Goderich. *** CSL's self-unloader GLENEAGLES has been sold to Westdale Shipping. CSL's 730-foot bulker BLACK BAY sustained major damage to her after cabins in a fire which developed while she was in winter quarters at Montreal on February 19. She will, however, be repaired and should be in service early this season. *** Bay Shipbuilding has another contract from Boco, this latest for a 728-footer. *** This season may be the last for Imperial Oil's IMPERIAL SARNIA. Operation beyond 1978 will require substantial deck reinforcement which her owners have not planned to undertake. *** Yet another group has emerged to save the SOUTH AMERICAN, this time for a purchase price of $16,000. Three earlier efforts by groups from Holland, Michi- gan, Mackinaw Island and Duluth failed to raise sufficient funds for the boat's res- toration and return to the Lakes as a tourist attraction. *** A record 63.3 million tons of cargo moved through the Lake Ontario-Montreal section of the Seaway in 1977, a 10% betterment over the previous high year of 1973. *** The former Columbia craneboat W. C. RICHARDSON has been stripped of her forward and aft deckhouses in her new role as an unloading dock facility for Wills Trucking at Toledo. The cabin removal permits more efficient use of her deck cranes in handling the offloading of salt water vessels. 6F=
