DRAGON was the name assigned to a tug which was to have been built by Dachel-Carter Shipbuilding Co. The contract was cancelled, hence DRAGON was never built. ELK, a name assigned to a Leathem & Smith contract, was also never completed, due to a cancellation of the contract. ENERGY (US. 218785) was completed at Sturgeon Bay by Leathem & Smith Towing and Wrecking Co., and had an engine built by Marine Iron Works, Chicago. Lehigh Valley Railway purchased this tug in 1924 and renamed it NIAGARA, and used it in the New York area. In 1946 Mathiasen Transportation Co., bought NIAGARA and renamed it CAPT. C. MATHIASEN. The tug was dismantled in 1956. ENERGY Collection of Late John C. Pool FORT HOWARD (US. 219389) was built at Green Bay by Northwest Engineering Works, and her engine came from the National Shipbuilding Co. of Goderich, Ontario. The Ship- ping Board sold FORT HOWARD to the Barrett Towing Co. of New York, in 1923 and the mame was changed to RICHARD J. BARRETT. In the late Forties, Moran Towing & Trans- portation Co. took over the management of the Barrett tugs. RICHARD J. BARRETT was junked at New York in 1956. RICHARD J. BARRETT Late Capt. Earl C.
