1909 THE KINNEY STEAMSHIP COMPANY 1935 Rev. Edward J. Dowling, S. J. A.T. Kinney of Cleveland owned and operated various ships on the Great Lakes from 1908 until 1935. The first Kinney SS. Co. vessel was the J.S. ASHLEY in 1909. In 1910, A.T. Kinney operated the ANDREW S. UPSON under the title of Tecumseh SS. Co., along with the ASHLEY in the Kinney fleet. During the seasons of 1912 and 1913, he operated the following Wolvin boats: AUGUSTUS 8B. WOLVIN, JAMES C. WALLACE and WARD AMES under the title of the Acme SS. Co. and H.P. BOPE in the Standard SS. ASHLEY and ALFRED P. _ WRIGHT which was purchased and run under the Buckeye SS. Co. colors. (This is not to be confused with the later Hutchinson Buckeye SS. Co.) In 1915, the ROBERT L. IRELAND was purchased and the ALFRED P. WRIGHT burned in November that year. The E.J. EARLING was purchased in 1924. From this date until the vessels were sold to the Wilson Transit Company in 1935, the ships were very well recognized by lake ship buffs.
