Rescue missions by helicopters have assisted the vessel crews and those people stranded on Harsen's Island, where the ferry service has been extremely limited. The Coast Guard vessels BRAMBLE and MARIPOSA have been used to ferry across the people from the island to Algonac. The MACKINAW and the newest Canadian ice-breaker, DESGROSSILLIERS along with the NEAH BAY, BRISTOL BAY, MOBILE BAY, KATMAI BAY and others have tried to flush the ice out of the river while escorting the convoys of ships up and down. ome vessels have suffered slight ice damage PAUL H. There are efforts to rehabilitate her but her condition as shown in Mike Nicholls photo on page 6, is deteriorating every day. *** The package freighter run from Windsor to Thunder Bay this year in place of the CARIBBEAN TRAILER is the JENSEN STAR ex a) FRENCH RIVER.
