M. EDINGTON a) RIDEAULITE has been renamed NIAGARA II. *** Star Line's new Detroit River cruise vessel STAR OF DETROIT arrived on the local scene on July 25th with appropriate ceremonies. She was to begin regular service on the 30th. *** Bowling Green State University's "Lake Log Chips" publication has taken on new freshness and meaning with the recent appointment of our long-time member, past president and Advisory Council member Dave Glick as its new editor. It's our pleasure to join with Dave's friends throughout the Great Lakes community in wishing him all success in his new responsibilities with "Chips", which he actually initiated in 1967 with his own weekly News and Rumors report sent to a select grqup of Great Lakes marine buffs. *** Cleveland Cliffs have sold their steamer PONTIAC to be scrapped by Marine Salvage at Ramey's Bend. *** Ivan Purvis of Soo, Ontario has purchased 15 of the tugs belonging to the Marathon Paper Co. at Marathon, Ontario. He then sold his tug DUCHESS to Parry Sound owners. *** Canada Steamship Lines NIPIGON BAY and HOCHELAGA have been towed to Hamilton, Ontario for scrapping. The 6-hour sail will proceed to the Marine City area and return to Kean's at 5:00 p.m., and will be limited to 40 persons; 20 from each of the two societies. Those attending are asked to bring their own lunch and refreshments. This cost -$34.00 per person.
