Foundered in the St. Clair River near Algonac July 6, 1913. 48. TABLE ROCK (US 59044) wood barge built in 1858 at Milwaukee (builder unknown): 111.4 x 27.5 x 7.9; 179 gross tons. In the fleet 1869-1872. Went ashore at Tawas Point, Lake Huron, September 30, 1872 and broke into pieces October 2, 1872. Data wanted. 49. VAMPIRE (US 25735) wood schooner built in 1868 at Ashtabula by Ezra Herrick: 112.0 x 24.0 x 6.0; 143 gross tons. In the fleet 1880- 1886. Abandoned in 1886. Last document surrendered March 31, 1886, "out of commission" 50. SARAH VAN EPPS (US 22585) wood sidewheel passenger vessel built in 1862 at Green Bay, Wisconsin by A. Hunt: 134.3 x 20.8 x 7.9; 179 gross tons. In the fleet 1872-1878. Abandoned in 1878. Last document surrendered November 9, 1878, "out of commission". Photo wanted. 51. VENUS (US 61088) wood barge built in 1872 at New Jerusalem (Toledo), Ohio by A. McLeod: 122.8 x 27.1 x 9.2; 232 gross tons. In the fleet 1877-1880. Foundered on Thunder Bay, Lake Huron October 3, 1887. All hands (7) lost. 52. MILTON D. WARD (US 90162) wood sidewheel passenger vessel built in 1870 at Marine City, Michigan by P. & D. Lester: 157.5 x 28.5 x 7.8; 538 gross tons. In the fleet 1886-1897. | Abandoned and dismantled at Detroit in 1898. ANNOUNCEMENTS (continued) solicited for the election in June. Disposition unknown. Not in 1899 USMV. Data wanted. 54. KIRK WHITE (US 14041) wood schooner built in 1852 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin by G. Barber: 106.6 x 24.6 x 7.9; 123 gross tons. In the fleet 1868-1869. Wrecked in Saginaw Bay, Lake Huron in 1869. Data wanted. 55. WINSLOW (US 26243) wood tug built in 1865 at Cleveland, Ohio by Quayle & Martin: 129.0 x 21.0 x 10.0; 210 gross tons. In the fleet 1873-1892. Sold Canadian (C 96855) in 1902. Burned in the North Channel, Meldrum Bay, Lake Huron August 21, 1911. Wreck removed in 1938. 56. GEORGE WORTHINGTON (US 10223) wood schooner built in 1852 at Euclid (Cleveland) Ohio by William Treat: 119.9 x 25.2 x 10.1; 304 gross tons. In the fleet 1879- 1881. Sunk in collusion with the schooner GEORGE W. DAVIS off Colchester Reef, Lake Erie July 22, 1887. This ends the Grummond Fleets as far as I can document what he owned. There may have been more vessels under his ownership or operated by his company. Pat Labadie of Duluth sent me a few articles from the Detroit Free Press which hint that Steve Grummond may have owned more ships than the ones listed in these articles. Among them were: DOVE and FAVORITE in an article dated 3/20/1887 and M. C. NEFF, managed in the lumber trade in 1897. As yet we have no documentation for these.
