The LOG continued Reliable sources indicate that USS's ROGER BLOUGH will sail from Sturgeon Bay in the spring. *** The former Hanna GEORGE A. STINSON is slated for a Toledo layup this winter. *** Marine Salvage's newly-acquired scrapper NIAGARA may elude the torches. She is said to have been reacquired by an Erie, Pa. group. *** CSL's motorship/package freighters FORT CHAMBLY and FORT ST. LOUIS are reportedly sold to Far Eastern interests. Both have been inoperative at Windsor and Hamilton, respectively. *** Two more idle Canadian lakers came out of moth- balls in late fall; Halco's LAWRENCECLIFFE HALL and Misener's JOHN A. FRANCE. *** The Dwor scrapyard at Ramey's Bend finished E.G. GRACE's dismantling in November, the first 1943-built "Maritimer" to get the axe. *** — Collingwood shipyards launched their HULL 230 on Friday, December 6th, at 11:45 A.M., the Canadian Coast Guard's icebreaker SIR WILFRID LAURIER. No further orders are on the shipbuilder's books at this time. Paterson's repowering of COMEAUDOC constitutes Collship's winter program. CSL's conversion of PRAIRIE HARVEST to self- unloader has apparently been postponed. *** Tug KINSALE and barge GREENWOOD - May, 1981 Fednav Lake Services has apparently done sufficiently well with their U.S. flag-entry FEDERAL LAKES this past season between Great Lakes ports and Europe to warrant their conversion of her sister, LAURENTIAN FOREST, to duplicate trades in 1986 as FEDERAL SEAWAY, similarly in U.S. flag registry. This vessel is to undergo rebuild at Jacksonville this winter. Both of these ships are products of the Port Weller Shipyards. *** Some further thruster conversions are said to be in the offing, with USS's steamers ANDERSON, CALLAWAY, CLARKE = and MUNSON to receive the bow thrusters from four of the five 1942-built "Supers" as stern thrusters. Involved, presumably, will be the steamers BENJAMIN F. FAIRLESS, A.H. FERBERT, IRVING S. OLDS and ENDERS M. VOORHEES. *** Algoma Central is also said to be in the process of putting stern thrusters in several of their self-unloaders. Involved are the motorships ALGORAIL, ALGOWAY and AGAWA CANYON, with that work to begin this current layup period. *** Misener's chartered stem-winder LAKETON will be returned to Nipigon Transport's operation in the 1986 season as LAKE NIPIGON, per late reports. *** As reported, the Straits’ ferry CHIEF WAWATAM appears to be headed for an uncertain future, but this time for a career Paul LaMarre Photo @ Steel tank barge (U.S. 594142) built in 1957 at St. Louis, Missouri by St. Louis Shipbuilding & Steel Co., (Hull # 1544) as a.)
