A CROSBY (U.S. 126617) Wooden harbor tug, built at Benton Harbor, Michigan by E.W. Heath in 1889 for Captain Crosby. Sold out of the fleet in 1891 when replaced by a larger tug (below). Later owned in Buffalo and went into the Great Lakes Towing Company in 1901. Abandoned due to age and junked in 1914. Engines rebuilt and placed in the new steel tug ILLINOIS (U.S. 212542). E.G. (Chicago & South Haven SS. Co.); 248 x 40 x 22; 1719 gross tons. Went to salt water for service in World War I and after the war sailed between Florida and Cuba until 1921 when it returned to the Lakes and received its final name. Badly damaged by fire at Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin in 1935. It was scrapped there during World War II. 5
