The tow was assisted by the Liberian tug REMBERTITURM. On December 30, the tow encountered rough weather, and the OSA RAVENSTURM lost the towline to the THOMAS WILSON off Cape Hatteras, well northeast of Bermuda in position 34.08 N, 61.36.2 W. OSA RAVENSTURM gave chase, hut was unable to scrapped at Port Huron. Her hull used as a dock in Sarnia, Ontario. locate the THOMAS WILSON, presently presumed lost at sea ASHLAND also broke loose in the storm, however REMBERTITURM was successful in locating her. ASHLAND was then towed to Bermuda, where she _ later grounded on Pigeon Rocks, off Crawl Point in Bailey's Bay. SALVAGEMAN (reportedly the worlds most powerful tug at 35,000 braking horsepower) and REMBERTITURM were able to drag her off the rocks, but at this time, there is doubt whether ASHLAND is in shape to continue the tow to Taiwan. Our thanks to Jay Bascom for his excellent report on this unfortunate incident. *** Jay also reports that on October 24, THOMAS W. LAMONT and ENDERS M. VOORHEES arrived at Algeciras Spain in tow of IRVING CEDAR. On January 13, the VOORHEES departed Algeciras in tow of the Greek tug EVEREST, bound for Aliaga Turkey. The tow encountered bad weather, and on January 24, VOORHEES grounded and broke in two at Profitis Elias on Kithnos Island near the port of Pireaus off the Greek coast.
