BOLAND & CORNELIUS UPDATE from 1957 to Present by Mike Nicholls Part VII In 1972 to satisfy the terms of the anti-trust consent decree of 1970, American Steamship Company sold CHICAGO TRADER, JOHN P. REISS, OTTO M. REISS, RAYMOND H. REISS, JOE S. MORROW, WILLIAM A. REISS and GEORGE D. GOBLE to American Shipbuilding Company. TELESCOPE, publication of the Great Lakes Maritime Institute, reported proceeds from this sale were used as partial payment for ROGER M. KYES, which was being built in Toledo. Also in 1972 the J.L. REISS was sold to Erie Sand and HENRY R. PLATT JR. and W.E. FITZGERALD were sold for scrap. In 1973 American Steamship began an extensive fleet modernization program building CHARLES E. WILSON and ROGER M. KYES. Also in 1973, Boland and Cornelius was purchased by General American Transportation Corp. - GATX. In 1974, the H. LEE WHITE was built, in 1975 SAM LAUD, 1976 ST. CLAIR, 1977 BELLE RIVER, 1978 BUFFALO, 1979 INDIANA HARBOR, 1980 AMERICAN MARINER and 1981 AMERICAN REPUBLIC. This issue completes our update of Boland and Cornelius - from 1957 to the present.
