FAIRLESS and IRVING S. OLDS arrived at Kaohsiung, Taiwan on November 8. Both vessels had departed Quebec on July 9 under tow of OSA RAVENSTURM. *%*% ATLANTIC ERIE, reflagged to Bahamian registry during January, arrived in Sept Iles on February 2. She is the former HON. PAUL MARTIN, which was renamed by Canada Steamship Lines in December. *** On March 17, Columbia's J. BURTON AYERS was towed from her lay-up berth in Toledo and placed in the drydock at Merce Industries by Gaelic’s NEWCASTLE and PATRICIA HOEY. *** The owners of AQUARAMA have asked the city of Sarnia for a three-month extension allowing them to keep the former cruise ship docked in Sarnia until July 5, 1989. The extension is required as the city of Port Stanley is not ready to receive the ship until then. Mayor Mike Bradley of Sarnia, however, is opposed, explaining that if the group was to stay in the community, or invest a significant number of dollars in the community, there would be a different attitude. Plans are for AQUARAMA to be converted into a floating hotel and convention center at Port Stanley this summer. *** Empire Boat Tours of Alexandria Bay has announced they will offer a limited series of tours in early June, departing from Ogdensburg, including a two-hour sightseeing cruise, a luncheon buffet cruise, a three-hour sunset dinner tour, and a starlight party cruise.
