President Jim Jackson (L) presenting Historian of the Year plaque to 1990 honoree William J. Luke. 1960, Bill joined the staff of the Detroit Marine Historian as editor of the Log, documenting current events on the Lakes for many years. Bill has written several articles on Great Lakes history, and has been instrumental in promoting entertainment and informational programs for the Society. His knowledge of Great Lakes shipping is known throughout the Lakes, and he has been asked to present many illustrated programs at meetings as far away as Duluth. We are looking forward to our 1991 calendar, which will feature Bill's excellent photographs taken since the 1950's. Another highlight at the meeting was the awarding to Father Peter Vander Linden of a lifetime membership to the Society and it's Advisory Council. This honor is reserved for members who have given exemplary service in perpetuating Great Lakes marine history and performed outstanding devotion for the betterment of the Society. Father Pete joined the Society in 1947, was editor of the Historian from 1979 to 1989, and is the senior editor of our award-winning series Great Lakes Ships We Remember, of which Volume 3 is soon to be published. Also honored at the meeting were members, who, in 1990, have reached the milestone of twenty-five consecutive years as members of the Society. We were honored to have in attendance Captain Sherwood Anderson, John Emig, Malcolm McRae, and Gerald Moore. Others not present but so honored included James Anderson, James Draucker, Allen Gillispe, Luther Hill, Pete LaMere, C.A. Lorriman, Pauline Lowes, S.J. Stebbins, and Harold Stirton. The meeting concluded with the excellent slide presentation by Paul C. LaMarre Jr. entitled “From Inside and Out - Across the Lakes”. Based on the response from all in attendance, Paul's photographic ability matches his excellent water color artistry. f For those interested, we have reserved the St. Clair Inn on Saturday, April 13, 1991 for our 46th ‘WG Annual Dinner Meeting. 43-11-6
