Flames reached over 100 feet into the air, and smoke could be seen for 100 miles. She had approximately 840,000 gallons of unleaded gas on board when the fire started, and the fire continued to burn throughout the night. The next morning, a six man crew from Williams Boots & Coots Firefighters and Hazard Control Specialists out of Port Neches, Texas arrived to assist in fighting the fire. At approximately 2:30 PM Monday afternoon, the fire was extinguished. However, the fire reignighted Monday evening, causing multiple explosions. ” The fire was again extinguished on Tuesday 44-2-3 morning, with assistance from the U. S. Coast Guard's BRAMBLE and BRISTOL BAY. Of the 18 crew members aboard, one was lost. Investigation continues as to the cause of the fire and explosion, however, JUPITER appears to be a total loss and salvage operations are expected to take weeks. HARRIMAN was towed on July 7 from Green Bay to Milwaukee where she will be used to offload her larger fleetmates at Jones Island and then shuttle cement cargos up the Milwaukee River to the LaFarge terminal. However, on August 13, she arrived in Alpena under tow of Selvick’s CARL WILLIAM SELVICK to load cement for Green Bay. *** On July 9, plastic explosives were used to demolish the last of Toledo’s Hullet ore unloaders. *** The saga of the U.
