MARINE NOTES.

The tug Active has arrived from Oswego with two barges carrying 2,300 tons of coal.

The Glide has left for Montreal with four barges containing 40,000 bushels of wheat and corn, and 1,200 tons of coal.

The prop. Lake Ontario, on her way from Montreal, grounded five miles below Morrisburg. Captain Donnelly, with the steamer Hiram A. Calvin, was first to the rescue of the craft.

The steambarge D.C. Whitney ran against a railway bridge at Chicago, although she had whistled for the bridge to open. The steamer sustained no injury. She has been libelled for $1,500 damages to the bridge.

The propeller Celtic has been chartered by the Department of Marine and Fisheries to convey the usual summer supplies to the lighthouses on the upper river and lakes. Her cargo is being placed on board at the Canal Basin, Montreal, and she will probably leave on Monday. Besides the usual supplies the Celtic takes up the magnificent new lighthouse for Colchester Reef, which recently arrived from England.

The steamer Conqueror has arrived and preparations are being made to have her repaired. She will be hauled out at the Marine Railway. In raising her Capt. Donnelly accomplished one of the hardest undertakings of his life. There are two holes in the craft, one abaft the wheel, and another forward on the starboard side. Her stern was also badly damaged. The steamer was towed to Kingston with her forward compartments full of water. The repairs will cost $500.
