The New Marine Law.

The Editor, British Whig;

Dear Sir; I notice in last night's issue that the new marine law requires masterrs and mates of vessels (with the exception of those who have certificates of servitude) to pass a rigid examination.

Well, Mr. Editor, we, as sailors, are in favour of the marine law, for then we have chances of promotion. But we do protest against any man receiving a certificate who is not qualified. And there will be a great number who were masters of vessels prior to January 1st who will not be qualified and who will receive certificates of servitude from their personal friends, their employers. We think, as Kingston has a large number of seafaring men, that the Inspector should hold an examination here.
