MARINE INTELLIGENCE.

Capt. McDowell, of the schr. Sloan, is very ill.

The schr. Fabiola is loading iron ore at the ferry dock for Fairhaven.

The schr. Sea Bird is at Rathbun's dock with bunch wood from Deseronto.

The schr. Sloan, from Chicago, is at the M.T. Co.'s dock with 21,000 bush. of corn.

The steam barge Enterprise, which arrived at the K. & M.F. Co. dock yesterday, is said to have 4,000 bushels of damaged grain in her hold.

Forwarding Rates - The forwarding companies, doing business in the grain trade between Kingston and this port, reduced their rates one-quarter of a cent per bushel. The rate between Kingston and Montreal, 2 3/4 cents per bushel, is now 2 1/2 cents per bushel. The Elevator Company has reduced its rates also 1/4 cent per bushel.

The reduction goes into force today but only on grain which leaves Chicago today. The effect is, that all grain shipped from Chicago prior to Saturday and now on the way between Chicago and Kingston will not get the benefit of the reduction. There is an air of fraud about this. The companies should have made their reduction go into effect at Kingston on the very day upon which the government put their reduction into force upon the Welland Canal. [Montreal Witness]
