p.2 The schooner Jacques Cartier, laden with 19,000 barrels of flour (sic), the property of Messrs. Gooderham & Worts of Toronto, went ashore near Colborne, in the storm of Tuesday night. All hands were saved, but the hull being under water, the cargo will be rendered valueless. The loss sustained by Messrs. Gooderham & Worts is covered by insurance.

We hear a rumor that the str. Kaloolah, a Lake Huron steamer, has not been heard of for ten days and is supposed to have suffered some accident.

DESTRUCTIVE CONFLAGRATION

About three o'clock this morning, the bonded warehouse of J. Miller & Co. at the foot of Brock street was discovered to be on fire. A very strong southerly wind at the time prevailed, which carried the flames to the adjoining wharf of the Hon. J. Hamilton, and continued from thence to Macpherson & Crane's wharf, destroying the warehouses of both these firms, and was finally stayed at Queen street. Very little hope at one time existed of its progress being stayed before exhausting itself at the northeastern extremity of the city. The following are the premises destroyed:

Messrs. Miller's bonded warehouse,

Mr. Scobell's warehouse,

Hon. J. Hamilton's warehouses,

Messrs. Macpherson & Crane's warehouses,

Mr. Donoghue's Inn,

Mr. Hendry's wholesale warehouse,

A portion of the building was also occupied by Mr. McLeod as a law office, and by Mrs. King as a lady's school.

Mr. James Watt's grocery, with the wharf attached.

What amount of property has been destroyed we have been unable to learn, or what insurance effected. The Hon. J. Hamilton, we understand, lost all his books. The schooner America, of Clayton, caught fire in her mizzen-mast, but was towed out beyond the reach of danger by the steamer Canada.
