Maritime History of the Great Lakes

Two Brothers (Schooner), 1868

Description
Full Text

A barge, in a sadly dilapidated condition, laden with wood, might have been seen lying at one of the wharves on Saturday, which in her day was one of the most prominent vessels on the lakes, as a fast sailer and for many years plying between Buffalo and Chicago. She is now called the TWO BROTHERS, but is none other than the once well known brig C.B. BLAIR. She was built at Michigan City in 1848, is 212 tons burthen, old style, and on more than one occasion has found a dangerous reef or the beach, and in several instances reported a total loss. In her prime she was commanded by Capt. Sam Langley, who took much pride in having the command of so fine a ship. He already retired from the lake service and it is more than probable that this once favorite vessel will close her career ere this seasons closes.
