Barge J.R. WHITING. Of 458 tons. Built at St. Clair in 1875 by Langell. Home port, St. Clair. Owned by J.R. Whiting & others. Value $12,000. Class A 2.

Propeller J.R. WHITING. Of 436 tons. Built at St. Clair in 1875 by Langall. Home port, Chicago. Owned by C.F. Spencer. Value $26,---. Class, A 2. REMARKS:-- Formerly barge.
      Inland Lloyds vessel Register, 1882


      The steambarge J.R. WHITING has been rebuilt at Milwaukee and lengthened forty feet. She is now called the BESSEMER and will tow the D. VANCE in the ore trade.
