All the time the CSL owned and operated this ship she had a huge bottom
damage extending over 40% of the flat bottom. In the mid length of the
damage the flat keel plate was hogged 7" or 8". For some reason this
damage was looked at successive special surveys but never ordered
repaired, while ships with much less damage were routinely fixed up.
Why the writer knows not.
