Capt. Chris Smith of the Howard Towing Association's tug ALANSON SUMNER displayed marked bravery in the recent storm in which the schooners GEORGE and KELLEY were in great danger of destruction off Goderich. When the vessels were reported in distress four tugs left Port Huron by night to go to their assistance. The wind was from the southwest, blowing a gale, and anyone familiar with the Canadian shore of Lake Huron understands the danger of encountering such a sea. The tugs all returned to Port Huron excepting the SUMNER. She continued on her course to Goderich and found the GEORGE dismasted, leaking and with no life boat, the yawl having been washed away. After attempting five times to get a line to the GEORGE Capt. Smith was successful, and the schooner was safely towed to Port Huron.- Sault Ste. Marie Tribune.
