Cataract (Schooner), 8 Jul 1884
- Full Text
The schr. CATARACT, which has been ashore at Wheatley, Ont. Since June 14, arrived at Cleveland yesterday in tow of a tug. The CATARACT anchored about 1,000 ft. off shore at Wheatley, in a storm on June 14, and the following morning her anchor chain parted and before the vessel could be brought to she was ashore. When the sea receded the vessel was found to be high and dry on the beach, 300 ft. from the water and up to the light water mark
(5 ft.) in the sand. She was jacked up and ways built preparatory to pulling her back into the water, but twice violent storms ended the work of the wreckers. The third trial was successful, and by the combined effort of 3 powerful tugs she was, after several hours hard work, hauled back into the water. The vessel is comparatively uninjured.
