Description
Full Text

We learn that Capt. Pickering of the new Brig COLUMBIA committed suicide by cutting his throat at Lock No. 8 on the Welland Canal, on the 3rd instant. No other reason can be assigned for the commission of the rash act, except that the Captain was much chagrined on finding that his new vessel would not go through the locks. He was a man highly esteemed and has left a wife and four children. We also learn that the mate of the vessel broke his leg only the day previous.
