Maritime History of the Great Lakes

Dauntless (Schooner), 1885

Description
Full Text

The Canadian schooner DAUNTLESS, which figured in the opera of "Pinafore," representing the British man-of-war arrived in this port yesterday.
The Detroit & Windsor Ferry Company leased her at Windsor last summer. She was hauled up on the beach and transformed, her sides being ornamented with painted ports behind which cannon were supposed to grin and made her look as much as possible like a veritable man-of-war. A temporary theatre was built around her. The scheme was a success and will be repeated next summer. The DAUNTLESS still retains many of the features of her former role. But she is not in commission to carry coal or any general cargo. She went to Tonawanda yesterday.
