STEAMER EMPIRE. - The Cleveland Plaindealer says that Mr. John R. St. John, formerly of that city, has become sole proprietor of this mammoth steamer, and that she is to run in the Chicago trade the coming season -- Capt. Randall, her former owner, master.

      STEAMER EMPIRE OF BUFFALO.- At the Depot of the Albany and Schenectady Rail road we noticed this morning several pieces of castings marked for this boat. The bed plate for the cylinder is marked as weighing 7,625 lbs. and the condenser 5,060; there were also sundry other pieces weighing from 2 to 3,000 pounds. Each constituting sundry parts of a steam engine. - Albany Evening Journal, 4th.

THE STEAMER AMERICA. - This magnifient steamer is undergoing important changes, and in addition to her strength and facilities for accommodation of the public, Capt. Philips is now engaged in adding two magnificent arches, spanning near 200 feet from bow to stern, over the entire wheel-houses, which must add much to her strength. She is also being renovated and re-painted in a splendid style, and will be ready for action in about two weeks. - Detroit Adv.
