THE OLD STEAMER EMPIRE. - Henry W. Burt, of Buffalo, has purchased of Mr. L. Smith Kellum, the hull of the old steamer EMPIRE, and it is supposed she is to be repaired and brought into service for towing lumber from Saginaw to Buffalo. So says the Detroit Tribune.

      The old hull of the stm. EMPIRE was yesterday removed to Clark's drydock for the purpose of being rebuilt and fitted out as a sloop for the lumber trade, in the same manner as the SULTANA. She will soon be ready for business, when shipmasters and others of a seafaring turn will have an opprtunity of gazing upon something novel in the line of vessel rig get up.

EMPIRE paddle wheel steamer of 1140 tons, built Cleveland 1844. Official U. S. Number 8559. after a long lay-up was rebuilt as a sloop barge Aug. 2, 1862. Rig changed to propeller April 25, 1870 and foundered near Point Rowan, Ont. Nov. 23, 1870 with no loss of live.
