THE OLD STEAMER EMPIRE. - Henry W. Burt, of Buffalo, has purchased off L. Smith Kellum, the hull of the old steamer EMPIRE, and it is supposed she is to be repaired and brought into service for towing lumber from Saginaw to Buffalo. So says the Detroit Tribune.

      NEW FOR OLD. - Messrs. Norris & Burt of this city are having the old steamer SULTANA altered into a Barque for the Saginaw lumber trade. She is to be called the CUMBERLAND. Her name cannot be changed without a special act of Congress, and if changed without proper authority it may cause some trouble to those doing it. The old steamer EMPIRE STATE is to be altered also into a Barque for the lumber trade.

TO BE MADE A SLOOP. - The old hull of the steamer EMPIRE was yesterday removed to Clark's dry dock for the purpose of being rebuilt and fitted out as sloop for the lumber trade, in the same manner as the SULTANA. - Detroit Free Press.
