Mechanic (Brig), U16399, 21 Apr 1848
- Full Text
THE LAUNCH.---The brig MECHANIC was launched from Oliver Newberry's ship-yard on Saturday amid the gaze of a large concourse of spectators. She went rapidly down the ways, and was about making a graceful plunge into the water when the ways gave way, and she lodged on the bank, keeping some ten feet of her bow out of water. She was pried off, however, during the day and will soon be completed and placed in commission.-- Detroit Advertiser
