Mineral Rock (Propeller), 25 May 1856

The fine new prop. MINERAL ROCK propeller, built at Buffalo for Sheldon McKnight, of this city, came in yesterday from Buffalo, via Erie and CLeveland. She was built expressly for the Lake Superior trade, and is a staunch and capacious craft. Capt. John Frasier, formerly mate of the stm. ILLINOIS, is her commander, with C. Lester as mate. John Stark, engineer, and J.C. Robinson, clerk. Her dimensions are 146 ft. 6 inches in ength; breadth of beam 27 ft. 2 inches; hold 12 ft. She has 2 wheels, and is propelled by the engines taken from the prop. MONTICELLO, manufactured at Shepard's Engine Works, Buffalo. Her freight, among which are a lot of cars and barrows, and 25 mules, for the Sharon Mining Co., is destined for Ontonagon and Marquette. The mules were purchased at Paris, Kentucky, and are fine animals.
