THE NEW PROPELLER OLEAN. - We noticed a few weeks since the new propeller ELMIRA, built by Laffrinier & Stevenson, of this city. Her mate, the OLEAN, tried for the first time, Wednesday, her speed upon the lake. She was built by the same skilful firm - her engine is from the same works, viz: the Cuyahoga Steam Furnace Co., and her furniture and equipments are by the several firms who finished and equipped so well the other. She is owned by J.D. Caldwell, and is also to accommodate the immensely increasing traffic of the New York & Erie Railroad. She measures 180.36 feet in length, 30.08 feet beam, 12.1 hold, and 609 tons, and is built as staunch and firmly as a vessel need be, and will be, as the ELMIRA is, celebrated for her speed and capacity. She is officered as follows: John Huff, Master; Wm. Keith, Mate; J.G. Bullard, Clerk; Sam. Curtis, Engineer. The OLEAN, NEW YORK, ELMIRA, OSWEGO, and JERSEY CITY, of the New York & Erie Railroad Line, are unsurpassed by any five screw steamers upon the lakes and elicit the admiration of lake-going men. - Cleveland Herard, 12th.
