Description
Full Text

The new stm. QUEEN OF THE WEST left Buffalo on Wednesday morning, on a pleasure excursion to Cleveland. The QUEEN OF THE WEST and her mate, the CRESCENT CITY, were built by Messrs. Bidwell & Banta, at Buffalo, and are the joint property of the Central, Buffalo and New York City, New York and Erie and Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati Railroads. They are designed to form a daily evening line between Buffalo and Cleveland, in connection with the various roads. The QUEEN OF THE WEST was modeled by Mr. Steers, of New York, the modeler of the crack yacht AMERICA, which laid the Johnny Bulls so neatly, a short time ago. Her dimensions are, 325 ft. keel, or 335 ft. on her upper deck; 40 ft. 6 inches beam, and 14 ft. 6 inches depth of hold. Her tonnage is between 1,800 and 1,900. The engine was manufactured by Cunningham & Belknap, of New York. The cylinder is 82 inches in diameter, with 12 feet stroke. The boilers, which are from the establishment of Messrs. Shepard, of Buffalo, are 30 ft. long, 11 ft. shell, and double riveted throughout. The furniture is of rosewood, and velvet tapestry and plush, and is of the most costly description; and all the decorations are of a very splendid character. The officers of the QUEEN OF THE WEST are, D.H. McBride, Captain; L.B. Goldsmith, 1st Mate; J. Edwards, Engineer; E.G. Morton, Clerk; and E. Myers, Steward.
Since writing the above we have received a telegraphic despatch from Mr. A. Edwards, the agent at Cleveland, which stated that the QUEEN OF THE WEST will be at Detroit Saturday morning. Our citizens generally are invited to come on board, and make an inspection of the vessel.
