Alex Sloan (Steam yacht), 4 Jul 1901

Description
Full Text

Painters were busily engaged in putting the finishing touches to Sam Sloan' new barge TWENTIETH CENTURY, yesterday afternoon and last night Mr. Sloan's men were working on the electric light system by which the boat is to be lighted.
The TWENTIETH CENTURY is the finest boat of her class in Buffalo Harbor. She is 90 ft. long and 17 ft. wide. Her lower deck is constructed with special attention to making it an excellent dance floor, and there are life preservers stored conveniently on board sufficient to supply the largest number of passengers that she could carry. There are toilet rooms for the women and everything is ship shape.
The TWENTIETH CENTURY is designed especially for a pleasure barge. She will be towed by the launch ALEX SLOAN, and wires from the dynamo on board the latter will connect with the barge's electrical system, perfectly lighting her. It is the intention of Mr. Sloan to run his boats between the foot of Porter Ave. and Fort Erie, and also charter her to any party desiring a delightful river ride by moonlight. Buffalo coal men have already engaged the TWENTIETH CENTURY for an excursion to Grand Island on Saturday. She was built by William Morningstar.
