St. Catharines, April 22 - A fine propeller was launched from Shickluna's shipyard, at four o'clock today. She was named the SOVEREIGN. She is 375 tons register. Shortly afterwards the bark MAGELLAN was launched from the same yard. After the blocks had been knocked away, the boat glided forward, but the stern stuck fast, and the launch was not completed. She will likely be launched before the day closes. She was built for Captain Murray, and is of 370 tons register.

Tuesday was a gala day at St. Catharines on account of the launching of two vessels at the Shickluna shipyard. The prop. SOVEREIGN was launched at 4:00 P.M. She is 144 ft. long, 27 1/2 wide, and 12 ft. deep. Her capacity is 450 tons, carpenter's measure, and 375 tons register. Her value is between $35,000 and $40,000. The boat is represented as a model specimen of naval architecture, with a cabin finely finished, and a dozen or so elegant state rooms. The bark MAGELLAN launched about the same time, was built for James Murray & Co., and cost about $25,000. She is a very fine 3 master sailing vessel, her length being 141 ft., breadth and depth same as the SOVEREIGN. Her carpenter's measure is 450 tons, register 370.
