Two Brothers (Steam yacht), 13 Sep 1871

Description
Full Text

THE " TWO BROTHERS." - A continued tooting of steam whistles of tugs and propellers in the vicinity heralded the arrival at the Main Street dock, about three o'clock yesterday afternoon, of a new pleasure yacht called the TWO BROTHERS. After a brief stop at the wharf the craft steamed out of the Creek and down the River bearing a number of invited guests on a pleasure excursion. This was the trial trip of the yacht, and although unable to take the ride, we learn that her engine and machinery worked admirably. The TWO BROTHERS was built by William Campbell, and was launched in the canal opposite the L.S. & M.S. Freight House, August 15th. last. She is the property of Michael Carr and brother, and is valued at about $4,500. Her hull is of plate iron and wood; length 55 feet, and breadth of beam 10 feet. The engine was built by Sutton Bros., and is of 10 horse power; cylinder 8 x 8. The cabin is grained in imitation of black walnut and oak panelings and otherwise decorated and furnished. The outside of the craft is painted white, striped with green. We understand the yacht will be taken to New Orleans and be run as a pleasure boat out of that city.

In a recent notice in this paper of the new pleasure yacht TWO BROTHERS, it was stated that the engine was made by Sutton Bros., of this city. Since then we learn that the castings were made by the form named, but the engine was built by Messrs. L.C. Wilcox and Thomas Caldwell.
