George Hall of Ogdensburg, one of the owners of the barge H.R. NEWCOMB, was here yesterday, arranging for settlement of her insurance. She was covered by Smith, Davis & Co. for $21,100, and is a total loss. The NEWCOMB was owned a few years ago by Smith, Davis & Co. She was built by Arnold at East Saginaw in 1876, measures 850 tons, was classed A2 last season, with a valuation of $25,000. She went high on the beach near Oswego last fall, but the ice reached her and broke her up.
