Description
Full Text

The largest sale probably ever made of vessel property on the
lakes was the one recently by the New York Central Railroad Co.
to T.D. Dole, of this city. It comprises 18 propellers, viz: The
ARCTIC, ATLANTIC, ARAXES, COMET, ECLIPSE, EQUINOX, EVERGREEN
CITY, DUNKIRK, GALENA, MENDOTA, MARQUETTE, MISSOURI, ORONTES,
PACIFIC, ROCKET, ST. LOUIS, TOLEDO and WENONA. The terms of the
sale were not made public. The Central Railroad Co. has entered
into a contract with Mr. Dole, the purchaser of its propellers,
for the transportation of all its freight to and from Lake Erie
ports for 5 years from the spring of 1868. Although the upper
lake line of propellers were purchased by Mr. Dole, the vessel of
that line weill still continue under the superintendence of
Sheldon Pease. This transfer of propellers will be alike
beneficial to all parties concerned in the transaction, as well
as the public generally.
