Equator (Propeller), 13 Apr 1857
- Full Text
F.N. Jones, a few days since, launched the schr. A.E. HART of
425 tons burthen. This vessel was built for Capt. Hart, but has
been sold to Silas Pratt. She is valued at $31,000. Mr. Jones
also launched on Friday the prop. EQUATOR, of about 700 tons
burthen, built for Dean Richmond. This side launch was one of
the finest of the season, although the distance from the water
was greater by 100% than usual. The EQUATOR is one of the new
propellers which are to run hence to Sandusky the coming season.
They draw about 5 ft. 3 inches water on an even keel. They are as
staunch craft as float.

CORRECTION. - It was from the hull of the old propeller EQUATOR that the new grain barge EL DORADO was constructed, instead of the propeller EQUINOX, as the types had it Saturday. The latter steamer is still in the Buffalo and Toledo trade.
