A deal has been closed whereby John Boland & Co., local agents, buy the stm. NIAGARA from the W.L. Scott estate of Erie. The price was not made public. After constructionthe boat was originally sold for $175,000. Its
tonnage is 3,300 tons and while it is not built by the mile, like some of the latest freighters, it is one of the staunchest craft afloat on the lakes today.
Alterations are to be made to fit the NIAGARA for carrying steel rails. Capt. M.S. Peterson has been appointed to command her.
