Florence (Propeller), 25 Aug 1866

VESSEL LAUNCH. - A steamer called the FLORENCE was launched on Saturday afternoon, from the ship yard of the Messrs, Jenkins, some two miles from Windsor. Her lenght over all is 95 feet; beam 25 feet and depth of hold 12 feet 4 inches. She is designed for general purposes, such as towing and freighting; has a return flue boiler, with late improvements; a 21 inch square cylinder, with wrought-iron shafts, in size 6 inches outboard and 6-1/2 inches inside; a wheel of the Philadelphia pattern, 6 feet 10 inches; machinery designed by Mr. D.G. McAlpine, and built by Mr. Gill, of St. Catharines.

      STEAMER FLORENCE. - On Friday the new steamer FLORENCE went on her first trip, from Detroit; she is ninety-six feet long and twenty-six feet beam, her average speed being thirteen miles an hour. Her engine was constructed at St. Catharines. The boat was built at Windsor, by S. & H. Jenkins.
