John F. Hager Sr. (Canal boat), 1 Oct 1873

Description
Full Text

The splendid new "laker" recently launched from the yard of Messrs. Baker & Sons of this city, and called the JOHN F. HAGER, SR., was yesterday loaded with 8,100 bu. (243 tons) of wheat, at 13 cents per busjel, and cleared for New York. The boat when loaded draws but 5 ft. 11 inches of water. Capt. Joseph Rickket is the owner of the HAGER and the boat is a credit to both owner and builders, being one of the finest ever constructed for the Erie Canal. The cost was $5,000. All will wish the craft a safe and prosperous voyage.
