The Clevelanders were jubilant Saturday over the departure of a fleet of four vessels for Liverpool. The Plain Dealer says: - "Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather this morning, a large number of our citizens turned out to participate in the ceremonies attending the departure of the Liverpool vessels. The Mayor, City Council, City officers, members of the Press, and others, accompanied by the Hecker Band, repaired on board the steamer MAY QUEEN, at an early hour. The MAY QUEEN, accompanied by the barks D.C. PIERCE and H.C. HOWE, and the schooners D.B. SEXTON and CORRESPONDENT, bound to Liverpool left the wharf this forenoon. The ceremonies on board the MAY QUEEN were spirited and appropriate. The above named vessels make six in all which have cleared from Cleveland for Liverpool this season, and more are to follow. This is truly gratifying to Clevelanders, and it is becoming that our authorities should make a demonstration worthy of the occasion. Eleven vessels have been chartered on the lakes for the Liverpool trade. Cleveland merchants have fitted out and loaded nine of them. Seven were built in Cleveland. It is peculiarly a Cleveland enterprise, inaugurated by Cleveland men and sustained by Cleveland capital. It is yet in its infancy. Last year but two vessels sailed. This year eleven vessels, with cargoes worth $150,000, have engaged in the trade. Whooray for us!"
