      The Canal stm. WM. NEWMAN, which made such a good record for herself last season, has been newly painted and somewhat improved in her steering apparatus. She is now lying at Central Wharf having her boiler tested by the U. S. Inspectors according to law..... The NEWMAN will load with corn and start for New York tonight.

      The canal stm. WM. NEWMAN which left here at 4:00 yesterday afternoon passed Tonawanda at 6:00 , having made 6 miles an hour. If no obstructions are encountered she will make a good record this time.
