Experiment (Steamboat), 13 Aug 1846

Description
Full Text

The Navy on the Lakes - There will not be that addition to the Naval Force on the Lakes this year, that was anticipated. The settlement of the Oregon difficulty has prevented the necessity thereof. The nucleus of a moderate Naval Force, will, however, be maintained. At Kingston, Commander Fowell, will commission the Steam-frigate CHEROKEE, with a harbor crew of 36 men in all. Lieut. Harper will Commission the Steam sloop MINOS, at Penetanguishene, with a harbor crew of 24 men in all. And Lieut. will Commission the Iron Steamer MOHAWK, (now being lengthened thirty feet) on Lake Erie, with a crew of 20 men in all barely sufficient to navigate her. The small Steamer EXPERIMENT has recently been sold, and the armed Schooner MONTREAL is to be sold by Auction. [Kingston Whig]
